This year, for the first time ever, I’m spending Christmas away from my family. Away from every bit of familiarity and tradition. My boyfriend, who kindly posted a picture a little while ago, invited me to spend Christmas with him and his family, states away from my parents and sisters. Stepping out on a limb, I accepted the invitation and have spent the last week with him, getting to know his family. Nervous and worried out of my mind, I was unsure about how things would go or whether or not AS would greatly affect how his family views me, this having been our first meeting.
AND things have gone much better than expected! His family has made me feel at home and welcome. It’s more than I could have asked for. They seem to like me and I absolutely like them. Overall, this has been a wonderful learning experience, both in my relationship with my boyfriend and in my journey as an Aspie. I’ve learned more about my boyfriend and why he is who he is as well as what I’m capable of.
I couldn’t be more happy with the boyfriend. He’s pushed me and caused me to grow and become more independent in less time than I imagined possible. It’s amazing. I can only hope that others with AS can find someone that will help them as my boyfriend has helped me. So, as I venture out on this adventure, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.
P.S. Love you Baby! ❤
